And then it was gone, forcing us down to the strip. It was small, kitschy and carried a distinct Melrose Place vibe. In its first incarnation we frequently stayed at the Gold Spike because it was the only known hotel downtown that was pet-friendly and had rooms you rented by the night rather than the hour.
